The Fire Drake

Part One

Dragon

This is a story that many of you have probably heard before. It has to do with dragons and men rescuing women. Very common. However, everyone still wants to hear another one. Y’all want to hear it again. That’s because the story of killing the dragon and getting the girl is the story of the world. And God makes the best stories.

So I’ll tell you the story of the fire drake. After that you may or may not get to hear the story about the boy who killed the fire drake and married the girl — if you’re lucky.

The fire drake was the most powerful line of dragons. The ice drake, the storm drake, the aqua drake, all of the drakes, were no where near as powerful as the fire drake, that’s why most stories are about the fire drakes, they left the biggest impact on human kind.

Now, you have to understand why the fire drake was the most powerful, it was not simply because he could breathe fire, all of the other drakes shoot something out of some part of their body and they all quite dangerous. So no, their fire is not what makes them the most dangerous. There are multiple things that make them dangerous, but that is not one of them.

Fire drakes are so dangerous because…well, I’ll let you figure that out on your own, after all, you remember things better when you have to work for them!

So let’s begin the history of the fire drake!

A long time ago, right after the world was made, dragons roamed the world, free. However, they were not called dragons, nay not even drakes! They were simply lizards. None of them were very big. The biggest ones would get to be about two feet long and no more than ten pounds. They were harmless, or so it would seem if you have never conversed with one. Yes, you heard me right. The lizards would often converse with the other animals, they were not confined by language. These creatures could talk to all, and so they could learn from all.

That’s right. The lizards learned many secrets and tricks this way. They quickly became the most crafty creature alive! More so than the creatures often described as the crafty ones, the masters: mankind, elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins. The lizards outdid them all! After many, many decades, the lizards learned a secret to make them the most powerful and feared creatures in the universe.

They learned to become drakes!

There were many types of drakes in those days. Legends say there were drakes that could you into stone simply by looking you in the eyes! Or drakes that could shape shift into anything or anyone. Yes, there are many myths and legends of those times. But none of them mention the fire drake!

Somehow, they remained a secret, they stayed out of the history books. We do not know how nor do we know why. But for some reason and somehow, they are not documented nearly as well as the others. And yet, there are many more fire drakes left than any other drake. Is that because they were not feared?

Nay!

It is because they are crafty little boogers. Very often there are stories about a drake of unknown powers killing whole cities. Those were the fire drakes. They rarely used their fire. And so they were often just “drakes,” or “dragons.”

Yes. Now you see? You realize that the fire drake was often in the legends! The ones where the drake did not die. Fire drakes never die. They never have. They always win. Except once.

Well, that is the background to the fire drakes, so that’s all you need know right now. However, eventually I will tell you about the man who actually killed a fire drake — the first and last record of this — and got himself a gorgeous wife.

This is, indeed, part one. It isn’t very merry at this point, however, this is only part one! A story often isn’t merry until the end. And there’s good reason for that! a story where everything is happy and merry…kinda borin.
