It’s that time of year! The resolutions have come and a lot of them have gone. I hear the gyms are probably open right about now! Oh, but don’t go to McDonald’s, they’re probably packed like a can of sardines! I mean, seriously, it’s January 3rd, nobody really sticks to their resolution!
I’ll bet you’ve made some “New years Resolutions,” haven’t you? Probably something vague like reading more fiction or going to the gym more; maybe you’re not eating out as much! But how long are you going to keep those? Honestly. Actually how can you even really keep those? You’re going to read “more” fiction, more than what? You’re not gonna eat as much, as much as what? You’re going to go to the gym “more”, more than the once a month? And whose keeping you accountable?
All of that to say, your New Years resolutions mean diddly squat. You aren’t specific enough and you have no reason to stick to it! It’s a feel good trick that makes you feel good for about two weeks, then it goes down the drain and you’re right back to where you started.
Instead of resolutions make commitments.
Instead of a vague “more” or “less,” make it a concrete like “once a week” or “no more than once a month.”
Get someone to keep you accountable.
No more of these “feel good” schemes.
Actually do something!
Acta non Verba (Actions not Words).
The next part is for men, young men specifically:
Here are a few goals you should probably set — and remember get someone to keep you accountable.
For the month of January, I’m going to be at work/school on time.
For the month of February, I’m going to do January’s and go out to eat no more than twice for lunch.
For the month of March, I’m going to do January’s and February’s and Spend no more than an hour on social media a day.
For the month April, I’m going to the the previous months and I’m going to read at least five pages of non-required reading a day.
There are the first four months as a kick starter! And also, for all of those, you should make sure you read at least one chapter of God’s word every day. Read, not listen, audio Bible is helpful, but have that as an addition.
What are your resolutions or goals for this New Year and how are you going to keep yourself accountable?
This was very inspiring 👏
